The Birth

You may be wondering how we came about?

One day a young PhD candidate stood atop a mountain contemplating how broke he was and cursed the academic job market for all those who could hear. A man in a suit walked by and heard his pleas.

• Suit: “I’m in business”
• Academic: “What business is it of yours that I wear the tweed?”
• Suit: “You won’t be able to buy any more tweed unless you put those skills of yours to good use.”
• Academic: “But my skills are useless in the real world! I’ll never earn enough money to afford nice tweed.”
• Suit: “Have you ever heard the terms mercenary? Gun for hire? Those types of people can buy all the tweed they want.”
• Academic: “Of course I have – what are you proposing?”
• Suit: “Let me sell your mad skills – then you’ll be able to afford a suit like mine. We’ll both be richer for it.”
• Academic: “Does your suit come in tweed?”
• Suit: “You bet your ass it does.”

So the businessman and the academic walked back down the mountain – a partnership had been forged. They both came to realize that the contemporary educational system was a scam, a charade. Professors can only stay in business if they force students to write essays, within their disciplines, that will do nothing to contribute to their own education or edification. The brave professor thus became a mercenary – writing high quality papers for those students with better things to do and the funds that allowed him to buy tweed. Why?
